Zuma Sparkle

Dans Sparkle, les ténèbres sont tombées sur les Bois aux corbeaux (il s'agit bien sûr d'une présence vaguement menaçante plutôt que d'un simple couché de soleil). Vous devez reconquérir la forêt étape par étape en repoussant la vague d'orbes colorées qui s'enroulent à l'écran. Si les orbes atteignent la brèche dans le sol à la fin de leur voyage, la partie est finie, mais en contrôlant un canon à orbes pivotant et recouvert de runes, vous pourrez tirer des orbes dans la chaîne pour réunir au moins trois orbes de même couleur, et ainsi les éliminer.

Au fur et à mesure de votre progression, les tableaux deviennent de plus en plus tortueux et difficiles, les orbes arrivent plus vite et d'autres couleurs sont introduites pour rendre la chaîne d'orbes plus complexe.

S'il est vrai que Sparkle emprunte de façon évidente à d'anciens jeux du genre - en particulier Zuma - il dépoussière tout de même le concept en apportant quelques innovations sympathiques.

Ainsi, votre progression est enregistrée sur une carte des Bois aux corbeaux et en certains points, la carte se divise en de multiples directions pour vous laisser le choix de la prochaine région que vous souhaitez visiter. Les niveaux eux-mêmes portent des noms gentiment mystérieux tels que le Chemin des damnés, les Terres d'ironie, et mon préféré : la Fosse aux myrtilles, un niveau qui consiste en une spirale dont le fond est tapissé d'une couleur myrtille.

Il y a de nombreux bonus dans le jeu qui fonctionnent comme des formules magiques. Ils apparaissent de façon aléatoire à l'écran et pour les utiliser, vous devrez d'abord les toucher avec une orbe. Certains bonus se déclenchent instantanément et effectueront des tâches très utiles, comme inverser toute la chaîne, faire tomber une pluie d'éclairs détruisant des orbes de façon aléatoire, ou tirer un rayon de lumière qui élimine les orbes les plus proches du trou. Pour d'autres bonus, vous devrez les contrôler vous-même avec le canon, comme l'orbe joker, qui s'associe à n'importe quelle couleur, la poudre colorée, que vous pourrez pulvériser sur un groupe d'orbes pour les rendre toutes de la même couleur, et un rayon de givre qui détruit les orbes dans la direction que vous lui indiquerez.

Vous recevrez également diverses amulettes que vous pourrez porter pour vous avantager au cours du jeu, comme un canon à orbes qui tire deux fois plus vite que la normale, des bonus qui apparaissent plus fréquemment et des bonus qui apparaissent plus près du canon afin d'être plus faciles à attraper. Vous pourrez porter une amulette différente au début de chaque nouveau niveau. Par conséquent, le fait de décider de quel pouvoir d'amulette on veut tirer profit dans certains niveaux ajoute un intérêt stratégique supplémentaire au jeu.

En plus du mode principal, il y a aussi un mode Survie dans lequel vous jouez un tableau aussi longtemps que vous le pouvez sans perdre de vie, et un mode Défi où vous choisissez un tableau et essayez de le terminer le plus vite possible tout en vous testant sur chacun des quatre niveaux de difficulté.

Il est évident que les créateurs de Sparkle n'ont pas essayé de réinventer le genre. Ils restent assez proches de la formule Zuma, et alors que les innovations qu'ils apportent tout de même au concept sont plutôt bien pensées, elles ne sont certainement pas aussi loufoques ou imaginatives que d'autres que nous avons pu voir auparavant. Le jeu donne aussi l'impression de dévoiler trop vite ses atouts : la plupart des bonus apparaissent tôt dans le jeu et il y a donc de grands pans du jeu où rien de nouveau n'est introduit pour maintenir l'intérêt du joueur.
